A plethora of players will become available in the summer where clubs famously have more money to spend and aren’t as restricted by financial fair play rules. The rumour mill is beginning to pick up pace and we’ve collated some of the biggest current transfer stories.
Bruno Fernandes has been linked with a move away from Manchester United…
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Bruno Fernandes
Ever since joining the Old Trafford club back in January of 2020, Fernandes has been a key part of the United team.
So far this season, the Portuguese has managed 19 goals and 18 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions.
It has already been a poor season for United, and their woes deepened on Monday afternoon after it was claimed that Fernandes has been linked with an exit.
As reported by Saudi Arabian journalist Abdullah Al-Hunayan, Al Hilal have held talks with Fernandes’ agent and lawyer over a possible transfer.
It has been suggested that the Saudi Arabian club would like to sign Fernandes before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 14.
Saudi Arabian clubs have become powerhouses in recent transfer windows due to their immense financial backing.
Ever since Cristiano Ronaldo made the move to Al Nassr in 2023, some of Europe’s top players have also been lured to the Middle East.
Over the past couple of years, players like Roberto Firmino, Karim Benzema, Jhon Duran, Sadio Mane and Riyad Mahrez have all signed for clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
Responding to the news, transfer specialist Romano has now delivered a big update.
Fabrizio Romano issues Fernandes update amid Saudi links
Taking to social media, he wrote:
“Al Hilal have genuine interest in Bruno Fernandes as one of their top targets this summer.
“Man United see Bruno as crucial player, same for Rúben Amorim — no talks have started between clubs, no bid or club to club approach. Man Utd insist on clear plan to keep Bruno.”
Romano added: “More on Bruno Fernandes’ Future. He’s been a top target for Saudis already two years ago and last summer too, before he signed a new deal at Man United.
“Rúben Amorim considers Bruno as a key, crucial piece of his project; and clearly doesn’t want Bruno to leave.”
Fernandes was given a rare day off over the weekend as he was an unused substitute during United’s 4-3 defeat against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Fernandes was linked with a move to Real Madrid earlier in the season, but Amorim was keen to dismiss any talk of his skipper leaving Old Trafford.
‘No, it’s not going to happen. He’s not going anywhere because I’ve already told him!’ Amorim said in March.
‘I want Bruno here because we want to win the Premier League again, so we want the best players to continue with us. He’s 30, but he’s still so young, because he plays 55 games every season.
Fernandes has previously revealed that he had offers to leave United before signing his most recent contract extension.
‘I sat with the club because I had an offer to leave,’ he recently revealed. ‘We talked about the possibility of me leaving the club or staying.
